Each one of us is a very unique individual and as such, diabetes either type affects us very individually. We are all Atypical!! What meds, exercises, food plans, etc help me may do absolutely nothing for you. It is a matter of Your Milage May Vary. The medics all try hard to put us in a box and say this and this and this will work or help or whatever. But it is all a cock and bull story! We are all very unique individuals and this set of conditions does not fit each of us the same way.

Here is some information on it...some is pretty technical! http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/412403 http://www.alfediam.org/media/pdf/RevueSobngwiPt2D&M1-2002pdf.pdf

Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by high blood sugar (glucose) levels, which result from defects in insulin secretion, or action, or both. Diabetes mellitus, commonly referred to as diabetes (as it will be in this article) was first identified as a disease associated with “sweet urine," and excessive muscle loss in the ancient world. Elevated levels of blood glucose (hyperglycemia) lead to spillage of glucose into the urine, hence the term sweet urine. Normally, blood glucose levels are tightly controlled by insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas. Insulin lowers the blood glucose level. When the blood glucose elevates (for example, after eating food), insulin is released from the pancreas to normalize the glucose level. In patients with diabetes, the absence or insufficient production of insulin causes hyperglycemia. Diabetes is a chronic medical condition, meaning that although it can be controlled, it lasts a lifetime. For more on diabetes types and differences visit http://www.reddiabetes.com

There is such a thing as monogenic diabetes mellitus. There are a few rare types of monogenic diabetes that can sometimes be mistaken for type 1 diabetes. (type 1 and type 2 diabetes are polygenic)

why?.....

And.......What is your question?
3 :
It's not worded very clearly and it should have been run through a spell checker before it was submitted. And the last sentence is completely wrong: "Type one diabetic patients cover around ninty percents in the entire diabetic group." It's more like 10 percent.

What are autoimmune diseases associated with type1 diabetes mellitus

what are autoimmune diseases associated with type1 diabetes mellitus?

Diabetes - 4 Answers

1 :
Celiac and hypothyroidism are the two big ones.
2 :
Type 1 is an autoimmune disease itself. Other autoimmune diseases include hypothyroidism, alopecia areata (baldness), lupus, multiple sclerosis, eczema, Crohn's disease and rheumatoid arthritis (not the type associated with age). People with 1 autoimmune disease tend to develop others.
3 :
Type 1 IS an autoimmune disease and when you have an auto. disease you can easely get another one. it is common for a type 1 to also have thyroid issues (that is another auto. disease) The deffination of an autoimmune disease is (w/out quoting a dictonary) when there is an attack within your body. Part of your body (the cells) attack part of its self. Lupus is another auto disease, but not as common to follow type 1 as a thyroid problem is.
4 :
i am a type 1 diabetic since the age of 4...i developed hypo thyroidism also, but only after 20 years...there is some belief that type 1 diabetes develops after having an illness because your immune system has been figting to rid the body of the infection and somewhere the wires got crossed and it attacked the pancreas too...but yes, those are both auto immune diseases..

What is the anatomy and physiology of diabetes mellitus

what is the anatomy and physiology of diabetes mellitus?

Diabetes mellitus is a dysfunction of glucose metabolism. Cells in the body use the glucose produced by the food that we eat for energy. The cells get glucose via a hormone called insulin that is produced by the beta cells in the Islets of Langerhans in the pancreas. The most common analogy of this is that insulin is like a key that unlocks the cells of the body, which in turn allows glucose to enter the cells to be used for energy. Diabetes can be a lack of insulin (type 1) or a resistance to insulin (type 2). Type 1 diabetes requires the person to take insulin via injection or a pump. People with type 2 diabetes have a bit more flexibility in their treatment options. They may be able to control their diabetes with diet and exercise, pills and/or insulin. This is a basic explanation of a complex disease, but I hope it helps.

What are the possible treatments for diabetes mellitus

what are the possible treatments for diabetes mellitus?

type 1- is treated with diet and insulin injections. type 2- Is mostly treated with diet and exercise, but in severe cases is also treated with insulin injections. They are both over seen by a physician!
2 :
insulin, sulfunylureas, glibenclimides, meglitinides, alpha glucosidase inhibitors, etc...
3 :
Type I (Insulin Dependent) is well treated with a combination of diet, exercise and insulin. Type II (non Insulin Dependent) is well treated with a combination of diet, exercise and oral medication. In certain cases also can end up in insulin. -> Health care continuos monitoring is essential for a well treated diabetes.
4 :
There are hundreds of treatments / treatment combinations out there for diabetes. Medicine is advancing each and everyday. The treatment prescribed is dependent upon the type of diabetes and the severity of the condition. Type 1 diabetes is always treated with insulin. Insulin is typically taken by injection, but there are other options. The insulin pump has become a very popular option. The FDA also just approved an insulin inhaler. Type 2 diabetes is usually treated with oral medications. These medications vary and are too numerous to mention. The common ones include Glucophage, Metformin, Actos, etc. Some cases of Type 2 diabetes also require some insulin therapy. Pre-Diabetes (not yet diagnosable as Type 2 diabetes, but borderline) is treated with regulated diet and exercise. With proper treatment, Pre-Diabetes can actually be cured and Type 2 diabetes be avoided. Good luck and best wishes...

Preventive measures for diabetes mellitus

preventive measures for diabetes mellitus?
primary ,senconary and teritiary measures for diabetes mellitus
Diabetes - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
The single most important step you can take in the prevention of diabetes is to live a healthy lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle includes many different aspects of your life. Eating a healthy diet is essential to helping your body to perform its normal tasks as naturally as possible. A regular exercise routine is essential to maintaining a healthy weight and in keeping your muscles toned, which allows your muscles to assist your internal organs in performing their tasks. Avoiding stress, or learning how to deal with stress in a healthy manner, helps your brain and nervous system to work with other parts of your body to perform the tasks needed to sustain life.
2 :
have the right weight. if needed, lose weight. eat foods which are low in glycemic index. get a healthy breakfast to start your day...everyday. healthy breakfast should be full of essential nutrients for the body after the "fast". for more info, visit the web site below and click on "healthy breakfast". eat 7 to 9 servings of colorful variety of fruits and vegetables a day. healthy meal = about 30% protein. about 20% to 30% fats, and about 40% to 50% carbs + sufficient micronutrients + water. = sufficient calories to support daily activities drink 8 to 10 glasses of water per day, depending on built/weight and activity. eat enough fiber per day, basically from fruits, veggies, complex carbs, and/or fiber-rich food supplements. cut down on your consumption of simple carbohydrates / sugars like white rice, pasta, donuts, pizza, and sodas. exercise regularly, also for cardiovascular / heart, muscle, and bone health. sleep about 8 hours a day. those who sleep less than 7 hours have great risk of gaining weight. take sufficient omega-3 for intestinal health and cellular health. avoid alcohol. the body converts alcohol into body fats. take food supplements to ensure you give your body enough nutrients per day.
3 :
You could try to incorporate some herbs like Amla, Neem, Ashwagandha, Aloe Vera, Chicory, Stevia and Gymnema into your daily routine. These herbs may help with sugar fluctuations..Check out http://www.desigram.com/Health/Conditions/Diabetes.html, they have other tips on diet and supplements related to diabetes.

Well, type 1 you can't prevent. They don't know what causes it exactly but the best guess right now is a mixture of genetics and an infection which cause the immune system to misidentify the cells in the pancreas that secrete insulin as foreign and destroy them. Nothing you can do about this, if you get it you get it. Type 2 can be prevented through diet, exercise and generally keeping healthy, unless it's genetic in which case it can't be prevented. The problem with this type isn't lack of insulin it's just that the cells of the body don't respond to insulin as they should. Gestational diabetes, which develops in pregnancy, can't be prevented. All you can do is manage it extremely closely so the baby doesn't grow too large which could give problems during the delivery. It usually disappears after the delivery.
5 :
A non-diabetic does not have to worry about controlling blood sugar levels, as the body does that for them. A diabetic have to assist their bodies in doing this blood sugar control function. Now if you want to prevent diabetes, assist your body in doing the blood sugar control functions. Make it easy for your body to do the controlling of the sugar levels and you will be doing what is needed to prevent diabetes. What assists the body to control the sugar levels? (other than medication) 1) Healthy diet - something that everybody should do in any case 2) Regular exercise - something that everybody should do in any case

You are way off base. T2DM is a disease of abnormal sugar metabolism where you have insulin resistance, low numbers of Beta cells, and you get high sugar (glucose). The high sugar damages your body over time. Then there is T1DM also. DM is now diagnosed by the HgA1c.
2 :
You might be making things fractionally more complicated than necessary here?
3 :
Why not? Because it isn't.
