B. Diabetes Renal epithelial cells have a glucose transporter that re-absorbs glucose filtered from the blood. These transporters are saturable, that is, when you have elevated blood glucose levels more glucose is filtered than can be reabsorbed thus contributing to the appearance of glucose in the urine. This is a characteristic of someone with Diabetes mellitus. This condition partially contributes to the "classic symtoms" of diabetes... Polyuria (excessive urination), polydipsia, (excessive thirst), and polyphagia (excessive hunger).
