Exercise doesn't stop it, but it can help it. Exercise improves one's insulin sensitivity. Type 2s are usually insulin resistant, and sometimes insulin deficient, so they don't have enough natural insulin on hand to handle certain types of food. Exercise can help the body utilize the insulin there, so even if the person is resistant or deficient or both, he or she will need less insulin as a result of the exercise. Also, exercise can aid in weight loss, and weight loss improves insulin resistance.
