Does elevated blood sugar in a person with diabetes affect physical coordination & judgment?
If a person who suffers from diabetes mellitus type II experiences temporarily elevated blood sugar, does this affect their ability to drive, operate machinery etc? Thanks to everyone who answers.

A mild elevation is usually fine. When this happens the person will feel hunger, thirst, and need to pee a lot. If it get even higher, the person my experience fatigue or blurred vision (acutely, other stuff happens a little more long term). In extreme cases, this could eventually lead to shock and comma. Hypoglycemia or low sugar is more of a medical emergency, high sugar can also cause problems and yes, impare driving etc.

I would say it does, depending on how high it goes, it can also affect weight, as you will begin to lose and not know why? This is a very dangerous situation as it can also destroy internal organs, keep your sugar levels as close to normal as possible to avoid complications!

if it is real high like 300 or more then yes for sure. Sometimes when I am in the 200 's I can tell I am "off"

My mother is a type 2 uncontrollable diabetic and it can be a very tricky thing. Sometimes it gets so out of control that she doesn't know if she's in this world or the next. So it does affect your ability to drive, operate machinery, think or make reliable decisions. My mom is only 41 so I know this isn't old age causing her these problems and as soon as I bring her diabetes under control she's back to normal. It doesn't happen to her very often but when it does you just know what causes it. It also depends on high elevated the blood sugar gets also, if too high instead of causing you the inability to do certain things it might just put you in a comma or kill you. The best thing to do is regulate it and take whatever you have to so you'll never have to find out what it can do to you.
