As with any medical condition, talk to your doctor for the best information about controlling your blood glucose levels with your insulin. Only your doctor / medical professional can adjust medication dosages, prescribed secondary medications, etc. to help with your situation. Don't try to treat / adjust medication on your own. Diet and exercise are very important in controlling your diabetes so watch what you eat and stay active. Talk to your doctor about recommending you a registered dietician or nutritionist to help with your meal planning needs. Good luck and best wishes...

Type 1 diabetes is not managable on one dose of insulin. If you want to manage it well, it takes either a pump, or at least three shots a day. One shot will lower you some, but not acurately take care of the spikes through eating, or the lows through exercise, since you get the same amount of insulin all day. Multiple daily shots or a pump allows you to change the amount you have at different times of day, more closely mimicking a well pancreas.
