why not re-define diabetes mellitus is a disorder of the co-enzyme acetyl-co-A?

You are way off base. T2DM is a disease of abnormal sugar metabolism where you have insulin resistance, low numbers of Beta cells, and you get high sugar (glucose). The high sugar damages your body over time. Then there is T1DM also. DM is now diagnosed by the HgA1c.

You might be making things fractionally more complicated than necessary here?
