Celiac and hypothyroidism are the two big ones.

Type 1 is an autoimmune disease itself. Other autoimmune diseases include hypothyroidism, alopecia areata (baldness), lupus, multiple sclerosis, eczema, Crohn's disease and rheumatoid arthritis (not the type associated with age). People with 1 autoimmune disease tend to develop others.

Type 1 IS an autoimmune disease and when you have an auto. disease you can easely get another one. it is common for a type 1 to also have thyroid issues (that is another auto. disease) The deffination of an autoimmune disease is (w/out quoting a dictonary) when there is an attack within your body. Part of your body (the cells) attack part of its self. Lupus is another auto disease, but not as common to follow type 1 as a thyroid problem is.

i am a type 1 diabetic since the age of 4...i developed hypo thyroidism also, but only after 20 years...there is some belief that type 1 diabetes develops after having an illness because your immune system has been figting to rid the body of the infection and somewhere the wires got crossed and it attacked the pancreas too...but yes, those are both auto immune diseases..
